How luxury mattress rose prices by more than 2,000%
A luxury mattress, once sold for just under £600, now fetches nearly £2,000 at auction.
This comes as the luxury mattress market continues to thrive, as the UK’s economy continues to expand and a series of record-breaking sales have been announced.
The rise in luxury mattresses prices has been driven by the increasing number of people who have moved into the market in recent years, and the high cost of materials used to manufacture them.
In February, luxury mattress maker Silex said that sales of its Roxy mattress, the most expensive in the UK, had increased by 50% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year.
The Roxy is a high-quality, custom-made mattress made from a range of recycled materials, including a specially engineered fibre that was used in the construction of the luxury house in Beverly Hills.
Its sales were up 8.5% on last year, with the company attributing its success to a surge in interest in the luxury market.
The company said that its Rope mattress, which was launched in 2016, had seen an increase of 25% in sales compared to last year as people increasingly turned to the product.
However, the Roxy and its rival Roxy 2 have also had significant price rises in recent months.
The most expensive luxury mattress in the world is now priced at £1,000, according to a survey conducted by Silextimme.
“In 2018, the price of a standard Roxy rose by almost £400 from £700 to £1.30,” the survey found.
A similar survey from Luxury Metals found that the Ruplex brand mattress had increased from £1 in 2017 to £2.50 in 2018.
Luxury mattress makers are also investing heavily in research and development to improve the quality of their products.
In 2016, luxury firm Aveda said it had spent more than £8m on research and engineering since launching its first range of mattresses in 2010.
This includes hiring scientists, engineers and engineers to study the materials used in mattresses and to develop new materials.
